Words Fitly Spoken

This past week I received the most encouraging direct message on Instagram from a girl whom I had "met" on social media awhile back. To be completely honest, we had followed each other and admired one another's work but that was about it. Her message came completely out of the blue and totally took me by surprise.

In her note to me she shared how my blog and Instagram had been like "sunshine" for her in recent dreary days. My friend went on to tell me about a recent trial she was going through and how my musings about my faith had been incredibly comforting to her.

Her brief but sincere message touched me so deeply. As I sat on my bed, I read her words over and over, letting them soak in. Writing a blog and sharing inspiring photos are both a creative outlet for me and something I really enjoy but are, at times, a lot of work and quite frankly, can be mentally draining. I try to constantly think of ideas and ways to stay inspired. I don't get a lot of feedback or encouragement and so when essentially a stranger approaches me and takes time out of their busy -- and even hurting -- life, it hits home.

It got me thinking. I want to be like her. I want to encourage those around me to pursue God with their whole heart, to pursue their dreams and creative aspirations. We don't lift one another up like we should. The simplest words can breathe life into a drowning spirit.

This person didn't realize that I had been having a rough time emotionally. I had no idea she was going through a trial of great magnitude and as we shared with one another, I told her of my own hardships God has been taking me through.

I guess the point I am getting to is this: We need one another. We need community. We need to be encouraged and we need to be actively encouraging others. Words are free but most often they are the most difficult things to bestow.

You never know what a person may be going through or what they need to hear at that very moment. Be intentional. Be a light. Remind someone just how special they are. Thank you, friend, for being that light to me.
